This project contrasts trendy Chinese youth with outdated spaces run by first-generation immigrants in Sydney. Set in 80s–90s-style shops, their awkward poses and isolated lighting evoke alienation. The work questions why these spaces remain frozen in time and highlights generational and cultural shifts within the Chinese diaspora.










I photographed young Chinese in trendy outfits, using their awkward, non-model poses to evoke a sense of dark humor and alienation. Flash lighting isolates the subjects from their surroundings, while passersby add context. The work reflects on why these places remain unchanged
